The Permanent Representation of the Netherlands at the EU invites you to an event with Jaap de Hoop Scheffer. Wednesday 12 February the former NATO Secretary-General joins us for a conversation on foreign policy.

Mounting tensions in the Middle East and Libya, more assertive neighbours Russia and Turkey, and main ally US increasingly pursuing its own course. What is Europe’s role on the world stage and how is it holding up in a turbulent world?

With Jaap de Hoop Scheffer we will discuss recent geopolitical developments and the start of the new European Commission and zoom in on EU foreign policy, European permanent defence cooperation and the role of NATO.

De Hoop Scheffer is former Secretary-General of NATO, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Professor of International Relations. Like no other he can provide us a look behind the scenes of international diplomacy.

De Hoop Scheffer will be interviewed by Steven Erlanger, chief diplomatic correspondent in Europe for the New York Times.
