European elections 2019

The European elections take place on 23-26 May 2019. The Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the EU in Brussels will host two debates in the run-up to the elections.

In the Netherlands the elections will take place on 23 May. Dutch citizens living abroad can also cast their vote.

If you are staying temporarily abroad, but you are still registered in a Dutch municipality you can either vote by mail or vote by proxy.

Dutch citizens living abroad who are not registered in a Dutch municipality can only vote by mail. To vote they will have to register at the Municipality of The Hague. If you register, you will automatically receive the documents needed to vote in every election.

To vote as a Dutch citizen in the European Parliament elections you should register 11 April latest.

Election debates at the Kortenberglaan

Ahead of the European elections the Permanent Representation of the Netherlands to the EU will be functioning as a host location for two election debates organized by Politico and NOS.

Tuesday 2 April the conference room of the embassy will be the venue of the Politico European Elections Great Debates. Members of the European Parliament of each of the eight political groups will convene for two debates on climate and migration.

Wednesday 10 April Dutch national broadcaster NOS will hold a debate featuring Dutch candidates for the European elections. The event at the Permanent Representation is organized in cooperation with the Brussels factions of the Dutch political parties.

For both events the embassy will exclusively function as host location. The organisation is  done by Politico and NOS.
